          Christy Sueverkruepp - My ancestor was Yallow DeVries (it was spelled Jelle DeVries on this tombstone) who
                                              was a member of the 9th Michigan Volunteer Calvary Company C.  I have found military
                                              info about his company and there are some archives at Hope College about these young
                                              men from Zeeland who joined the 9th Michigan Calvary.  I have not found information
                                              on his life before that in Zeeland or his families journey to Michigan. I am also not sure
                                              how our family ended up living near Firth, Nebraska.

                                              Jelle’s wife’s name was “Pictue” and was pronounced something like Peach-U but I do
                                              not have her maiden name. Jelle’s name was pronounced more like the spelling Yallow.
                                              There is a large Dutch community here in SE Nebraska with one town being called Holland.
                                              They started Dutch Reformed Churches in this area. My paternal grandfather & grandmother
                                              came straight from the Netherlands to NE as children. On my mother’s side is this DeVries
                                              line who first were in Michigan and then came here. I’m sure they must have known someone
                                             in the community or had a relative here.
 
 

Bob DeVries - I’m looking for information about my ggrandfather, Siegar, anglicized Samuel or Sam, DeVries. Emigrated from Groningen, NL circa, 1867 or shortly after the Civil War and settled in Chicago. According to family legend he left his wife, Etta Moorlach- DeVries, daughter, Jantje, Jennie, DeVries-Hoffenkamp & family, Son John DeVries and family and ran away to Grand Rapids. Circa, late nineteenth century.  I would like to know if he started a second family in west Michigan or any information I can get about the ol’boy.
