MacNet has upgraded to a new News Group Service!

MacNet is running Usenet News, or Netnews, a system of distributed bulletin board systems running on thousands of computers worldwide. This is the original network for online discussion!

Users of Usenet News exchange views and information by writing articles, which are then transmitted automatically amongst the computers in the network. Once posted, an article can by read by others days, hours, or even minutes later, depending upon their computer’s type of network link to Usenet. Articles are organized by topic area into newsgroups, of which there are currently over 20,000. A wide variety of topics, found nowhere else, span everything from Genealogy to Medical conditions, Quilting to the latest release of Microsoft Windows.

To subscribe to these newsgroups, check that your browser has a program assigned to Newsgroups.

Example:
Internet Explorer:
Go to Tools / Internet Options / Programs
Check the program for Newsgroups - probably Outlook Express.

Then check Outlook Express:
Go to Tools / Accounts / News / Add / News...
Type in your Display Name: (Normally your First & Last Name)<next>
Type in your email address: youremail@macatawa.org <next>
Type in your News (NNTP) server: news.macatawa.org
Finish / Close

You will be asked to download from the newsgroups - This may take some time.

Subscribe to the Newsgroups:
Select Newsgroups that fit your interest and Click on Subscribe
